Marty Sloan Obituary - Kind, motivated, and productive were all characteristics of Marty Sloan. He gave everything he did his complete and utter devotion! Because of his passion for automobiles and racing, Marty ran a repair shop and competed in races for several years. Because Marty was outgoing, friendly, and kind, he was able to make friends with everyone. The members of Marty's family and the community held him in high esteem. His loved ones will always cherish his friendly personality and infectious laughter because they will always remember him.
During the 1960s, significant societal shifts occurred in the United States. Many influential figures, including John F. Kennedy, hippies, psychedelics, the black civil rights movement, and The Beatles, were instrumental in defining the age of optimism. At the Redford Community Hospital in Wayne County, Michigan, Robert "Bob" and Violet "Vi" Sloan gave birth to their son Marty in the year 1960. It was a joyous occasion for both him and his older sister Cynthia to welcome him.
The upbringing that Marty received in Livonia was typical. At the time, both of his parents were employed outside the home. During his childhood, his mother worked as a dental hygienist, and his father was a well-known carpenter. Because Marty had access to such a wide variety of tools, he naturally tried out each and every one of them. At a young age, he was able to acquire the skills necessary to operate the hydraulic jack to repeatedly lower and raise the family automobile. He spent time with his father tinkering and coaching his Little League team. His father was also his coach. The fact that Marty's friends could walk to his Clarenceville schools made living in close proximity to them a desirable option. As active young men, they took pleasure in their backyard pool during the summer months and their hockey rink during the winter months. As a teenager, Marty enjoyed playing practical jokes on those around him, particularly on his sister.
Family sailing was something they enjoyed doing together, and they took responsibility for their own safety and success. All his life, Marty had a deep affection for water. Marty's enthusiasm for mechanics grew throughout his time in high school, during which he learned how to operate a H.A.M. radio and worked on a variety of automobiles in the garage provided by his family. The fact that the dealer informed his sister that her vehicle had not been repaired was a source of great disappointment for her.
Following the adjustments that Marty made to the timing chain and other essential components, the automobile performed better than it ever had before! After graduating from high school in 1978, Marty went on to work for Mark's Small Engine in Northville, where he had previously participated in a mechanical trade school before his graduation. When Marty had some spare time, he would participate in drag racing with his best friend Dave Selvig and build different kinds of motors. Within a short period of time, they were living the dream thanks to the support of professional sponsors such as Ford Motor Company!
Marty established United Mower, a small engine service and sales company, after spending years competing in road racing and putting together a team to compete. The success of Marty's company led his mother to leave her career as a dentist and begin working for him. As a result of United Mower's ability to sell Toro/Snapper, Husqvarna, and Stihl, the company became one of the most prominent Stihl dealers in south Eastern Michigan. The property that he owned on Big Crooked Lake in Brighton was just one of the many wonderful things that the company had to offer. Skiing and boating were two activities that he enjoyed doing with his family and friends here.
His encounter with Gundi Parris, the woman he envisioned himself to be, was one that he will never forget! They spent their childhoods snowmobiling because they had a deep appreciation for the natural world. Gundi was hired by Marty because his mother was involved in a car accident and was unable to provide assistance anymore. Even before they were aware of it, she was employed by United Mower. On September 16, 2004, they tied the knot, and they were inseparable and happy together. Marty was blessed with a wonderful stepson named Burt as well as a stunning wife. Him and Gundi could go on multiple snowmobile excursions in northern Ontario as a result of the expansion of the company.
Although they enjoyed their time at the beaches of Cozumel and Virginia, they found that their trip to Germany was the most memorable of their vacations. They enjoyed going on vacations, but their favorite things to do were during the holidays and at family gatherings. Being in the company of loved ones was the single most satisfying thing for both him and Gundi. Gundi was the absolute best hostess, and Marty was praised for the thoughtful gifts he gave to his family and friends.
Marty never slowed down in his pace! It brought him great pleasure to make everyone feel at home. His typical approach was to devote a significant amount of time to the discussion of broad topics in which he could offer his perspectives. He was a devoted friend to many people, and Marty was a charming and easygoing person. The legacy he left behind was one of living life to the fullest and spending a significant amount of his time and resources on charitable causes. Anyone who knew and loved him should find solace in the wonderful memories he shared with each of his loved ones. Marty will be remembered and missed for all time because he was taken from us much too soon.
It was on August 15, 2018, that Marty R. Sloan passed away. I am Gundi's devoted spouse. Burt's stepfather will always be cherished. An open house and memorial service will be held on Friday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, which is located at 30200 Five Mile Road in Livonia.
