Louis Kalin Obituary, Most Devoted Member of the Slovenian Canadian Association of Edmonton, Passed Away

Louis Kalin Obituary - At the age of 92, Louis (Lucian) Kalin, who was considered to be one of the most devoted members of the Slovenian Canadian Association of Edmonton, passed away calmly and peacefully on January 18, 2024. The passing of this incredible individual has caused the association to feel a sense of loss. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Louis will miss him terribly because he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His presence will be sorely missed by all those who encountered him. In 1952, Louis relocated to Canada from Cesta, which is located in Ajdovščina, Slovenia, where he was born. In his life, love, unrelenting effort, and unwavering dedication to his family and the community in which he lived were the defining characteristics of his existence. Louis and his cherished wife, Valerie, had been married for 64 years, and during that time, they raised their children Walter and Miriam with unflinching love and dedication.

As a wonderful father and grandfather, Louis cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren, Kevin, Brendan, Sheldon, and Justin. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. There were four people, but Justin was his favourite. He was able to accomplish this by instilling in them the principles of compassion, perseverance, and hard work, thereby establishing a legacy that would be passed down from one generation to the next. Throughout his entire life, up until the age of 68, Louis was employed in the fields of heavy-duty mechanics and electricians simultaneously. In the end, he decided to end his professional career and retire. Even though he had retired, he continued to be active and enthusiastic about his hobbies, which included gardening, making wine, and helping Valerie with the cooking. Another one of his hobbies was tinkering in his workshop.

The Canadian Slovenian Association counted Louis as a devoted member throughout his time there. Not only did he enjoy spending time at the Hall with his friends, but he also volunteered his time at some different events. His willingness to assist others and offer guidance to his friends and neighbours earned him the admiration and esteem of everyone he knew. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. His kind and gentle demeanour earned him a reputation for being helpful. The Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home in Edmonton will be the location of the Funeral Liturgy that will be held for Louis on January 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. We extend a warm invitation to our friends and family to join us. During this trying time, the family would like to express their gratitude to the professionals working in the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services at the University of Alberta Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

Instead of sending flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Louis's honour to a charity of one's choosing. Thank you for your patience and consideration. It is planned to do this in order to honour the kind and sensitive nature of Louis' personality. It is the love and kindness that Louis Kalin possessed, along with his unflinching commitment to his family and community, that will be remembered by future generations. His passing will be deeply mourned, but his legacy will live on after his passing. It is only fitting that his soul be at rest for all of eternity.
