Menno Troyer Obituary - In Washington Township, at approximately seven o'clock on Wednesday evening, a terrible accident took place on State Route 258, which ultimately resulted in the death of Menno Troyer, a resident of Newcomerstown who was 52 years old.
According to state police from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Troyer's horse and buggy was involved in an accident with a man from Port Washington who was 68 years old and was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
After traveling in an easterly direction, the driver made a left turn, which resulted in a collision with the horse and buggy, causing both of them to sustain serious injuries.
The tragic news is that Menno Troyer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The driver of the vehicle managed to get away, but deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office eventually located him and arrested him.
